From the lush jungles of the North to the beautiful islands of the South, Thailand is filled with wonderful people. It's no wonder they call Thailand: the land of smiles. I had the pleasure of living there for 8 months as a Paid Dive Instructor.

My goal was to meet locals and backpack the country from north to south. Mission accomplished.

Contrary to popular belief, the street food is safe to eat!
You can eat a good meal for 30-60 baht (1-2 usd)

That being said, there are a fe things you should know.
1. They do not have separate meals from breakfast, lunch and supper. Pad Thai for breakfast? Why not!

2. Eat some bugs! You'll find that there is no shortage of creepy crawlers to eat. Try something new :)

3. Buy local products. You can't beat the taste of fresh fruit

The Full Moon Party

A trip to Thailand is incomplete without attending the infamous Full moon party that takes place once every month in Koh Phangan. If you're on Koh Samui, you can catch a cheap ferry that leaves from Bophut. There are many boats that leave from that area so no need to book in advance.

marine park

Probably the most beautiful island in Thailand! This marine park is accessible via boat from, and closest to Koh Samui. They have little cabins (about 6 of them) available for rent (about 20usd/night) and as all the tourist go home, you get to enjoy the most beautiful sunset. A truly magical place.

Silence with Monks

Somewhere in the northern jungles of Thailand, between Chang Mai and Pai, there is a peaceful village of Monks. Tranquility doesn't begin to describe this sanctuary. I spent 10 days in silence with them and learnt more then I could have imagined.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Pai

If you get car sick easily, this might not be the place for you. About a 2 hour drive from Chiang Mai and the most turns you've ever taken in a vehicle, you arrive in Pai. This is a lovely little (hippieish) place that is perfect for relaxing or jungle hikes.

Easily navigable by foot, this little village is a must. People are very friendly and food is amazing!

Scuba Diving

Wether you are an experienced diver, or just trying it for the first time, You should make it a point to see the beautiful fish in these waters.
Having lived in Koh Samui for 8 months as a Padi Dive Instructor, I feel like the best time of year for fish and visibility is March/April. If you're lucky, you can expect to see Whale Sharks, Thousands of fish and beautiful corals.
